I called up to get the stipple in my ceiling tested for asbestos. After hearing about how some companies swap samples and to be wary of business that test for asbestos (so they can get a demo job), from the moment I spoke to Karen and Chris I knew I could trust them and feel at ease. When Jason came to the property he was pretty confident that there wasn't any asbestos but I wanted to test just for ease of mind. I needed the sample tested asap as I had trades booked to start renovating the property in two days time. Jason knew this and personally delivered the sample to the independent testing centre that night for testing first thing the next morning. By the end of the day I had a negative test produced and were able to safely start our renovations. The owner of coastal asbestos came out and quoted the job which I though was great. He went through the whole process in detail which put our minds at ease. His guys turned up early and were ready to go. They went through the works process and explained what they were going to do. All work place health and safety were used and area was barricaded of with all correct signs in place. Do eaves contain asbestos?

Eaves in homes built or renovated before 1990 were very often made from asbestos cement sheeting, so there’s a good chance older Gold Coast eaves contain asbestos. You can’t confirm it by looking, so have a sample tested by a NATA-accredited laboratory before any painting, repairs or replacement that could disturb it.

Damaged or weathered eaves sheeting should be assessed by a licensed removalist.

What happens on the day of asbestos removal?

On removal day, our licensed team sets up the work area with signs and barriers and removes the asbestos carefully using controlled, low-dust methods. It’s then sealed, packaged and taken to a licensed disposal facility. Afterwards, an independent competent person inspects the area and issues a clearance certificate.

Most homes are done in a day or two, depending on access and the size of the job.

Do my neighbours need to be told about asbestos removal?

Yes. In Queensland, a licensed asbestos removalist must tell the owner and occupier, and anyone occupying premises in the immediate vicinity, when the work will start, before it begins. Licensed removal work must also be notified to Workplace Health and Safety Queensland at least five days ahead, except in emergencies.

We handle these notifications for you as part of every licensed job.

Is encapsulating or sealing asbestos an alternative to removal?

Sometimes. If asbestos is in good condition, sealing or painting it can help stop fibres being released, and Queensland Government advice treats painting or sealing intact asbestos cement as low-disturbance maintenance. It doesn’t remove the asbestos, though, so it needs regular checks, and damaged material usually needs removing.
